Wood Badge for the 21st Century – “Leadership on the Cutting EDGE

Many Scouters consider Wood Badge training to be the peak or “mountaintop” experience in their Scouting career. Wood Badge has served as a source of training and inspiration for thousands of scout leaders worldwide. In return Wood Badge participants have had a positive and profound influence on the lives of millions of America’s youth by supporting the Mission of Boy Scouts of America to “Prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”

The primary purpose of Wood Badge Training is to strengthen Scouting in local units, districts and the council. The Wood Badge course welcomes leaders from all areas of Scouting: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturing, District and Council volunteers to work together to identify individual goals that will guide and enhance their service to children and youth. These goals are known as the Wood Badge ticket. By completing the ticket, participants learn how they can strengthen the Scouting program wherever they serve and beyond.

Phase Two of a new Scoutmaster’s introduction to the BSA and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful troop leadership experience. The course addresses the needs of adults who have recently accepted the responsibility of delivering the Scouting program to youth by serving as Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters.

The second phase of a new Cub Scout leader’s introduction to the BSA and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful pack and den leadership experience. Training is available for Cubmasters, Pack Committee Members, Tiger Den Leaders, Cub Scout Den Leaders, and Webelos Den Leaders

Cub Scout Specific Training Course is taught in three sessions. Sessions 1 and 2 must be attended by everyone. Session 3 is the job position specific training. To be considered trained for their position, Cub Scout leaders must complete all three session. However, as a reminder, the cub leader is only considered trained for that particular position (tiger, den, webelos, cubmaster, committee, or pack trainer). If a Bear Den Leader decides to move up to become a Webelos Den Leader, he/she must attend the Session 3 module for Webelos Den leader in order to be considered a trained leader for Webelos. Leaders do not have to repeat Sessions 1 and 2.
