CARLSBAD: School dedicates reading garden to former student
In an emotional ceremony at Kelly Elementary School this week, a newly built reading garden was dedicated to a former student who planned the project but died last year before he could finish it.

CARLSBAD: Eagle Scout earns his wings
Nirav Mehta of Carlsbad Boy Scout Troop 750 recently earned his Eagle Scout rank. A senior at La Costa Canyon High School, Nirav is a member of the Engineering Club and volunteers at the tutoring center. His Eagle Project was to design and plant a Xeriscape educational garden at the Dove Library in Carlsbad.

Eagle Project: He built redwood garden planters for Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Fallbrook.
Andrew Howard, Troop 748
Eagle Project: He built a raised stage, sound booth and projection booth for Carlsbad Community Church.
Bradley McCormick, Troop 755
Eagle Project: He built a split rail fence for Pico Promenade in Fallbrook
FALLBROOK: New Eagle Scouts join ranks
John Fellos, 16, and Adam Holzer, 18, of Troop 725 of the Santa Margarita Boy Scout District earned their Eagle rank. John is pictured with his parents, Connie Fellios, left, and Scoutmaster John Fellios, right. John is a junior at Fallbrook High School. His Eagle project was landscaping at REINS, a therapeutic riding program. Holzer graduated from Fallbrook High School this past year. His project was to build raised planter boxes for the Fallbrook Community Garden.
